W.A.S.P. is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1982 by singer Blackie Lawless. The band rose from the Sunset Strip glam metal scene with a shock rock image and lyrics that made it a prominent target of the PMRC in the mid 1980s. The 1992 concept album "The Crimson Idol" is often regarded as its finest work. Early shows became notorious for stage theatrics such as a torture rack and raw meat thrown into the crowd.
