Stanley Clarke is an American bassist from Philadelphia who plays both electric bass and double bass. A founding member of the jazz fusion group Return to Forever, he helped establish the bass guitar as a melodic lead instrument with a percussive attack and slap technique. His records include "Children of Forever" (1973) and "School Days" (1976), and he was named an NEA Jazz Master in 2022.
