About the concert
Join New Music Detroit as we celebrate 19 years of strange and beautiful music in the Motor City. This year's theme, 'AFTERIMAGE', traces the meaning that emerges through the resonance and reverberation of listening together.
The 2026 lineup is a convergence of radically different sonic spheres: a rare performance of Philip Glass's monumental 1971 work "Music With Changing Parts"; perspectives on disability and asymmetry as told through the body and voice; ambient dreamscapes; ancestral memory shaped by air into sound; beat-driven electronics, jazz-inflected and rooted in Detroit's own cultural soil; and even performance that removes the "instrument" altogether.
