Vanilla Fudge are a rock band formed on Long Island, New York, in 1966, often cited as an American link between psychedelia and early heavy metal. They became famous for turning pop songs into slowed-down, organ-heavy hard rock arrangements. Their version of the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" reached the US Top 10 in 1967, and Ritchie Blackmore has said early Deep Purple wanted to be a Vanilla Fudge clone.
