the olllam is a trio led by the Belfast uilleann piper John McSherry with the Detroit musicians Tyler Duncan and Michael Shimmin. Rather than jigs and reels, they write instrumentals with pop song structures, layering trance-like pipe melodies over drums and Rhodes. McSherry was a founding member of Lunasa, and the trio's self-titled debut was recorded remotely over Skype and email and issued by Compass Records in 2012.
