The Bad Plus are an American jazz group from Minneapolis, formed in 2000 by bassist Reid Anderson and drummer Dave King. They blend post bop and avant garde jazz with rock, pairing originals with covers from Nirvana to Stravinsky. Guitarist Ben Monder and saxophonist Chris Speed joined in 2021, with albums including These Are the Vistas (2003) and Complex Emotions (2024). Concerts center on democratic interplay, bold improvisation, and genre crossing arrangements.
