Surprise Chef is an Australian instrumental quartet from outside Melbourne whose music evokes mood through cinematic, soulful soundscapes. Their sound draws on 1970s film scores, jazz-funk, and hip-hop samples. Debut albums "All News Is Good News" and "Daylight Savings" (2020) drew support from Gilles Peterson and KEXP; their fourth album "Superb" (2025) earned international acclaim. Live sets build immersive grooves with spacious arrangements, often paired with live visuals on headline dates across Australia, North America, and Europe.
