Soft Cell is an English synth-pop band formed by singer Marc Almond and instrumentalist David Ball, who came to prominence in the early 1980s. They are best known for their 1981 version of "Tainted Love" and the platinum debut album "Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret". Their track "Memorabilia" made them pioneers of synth-based techno. David Ball died in 2025.
