Morris Day and the Time is the Minneapolis funk band fronted by singer Morris Day, formed in 1981 and originally known as The Time. Assembled by Prince from the local group Flyte Tyme, the band helped shape the Minneapolis sound, a fusion of funk, R&B, new wave and synth-pop. Its hits include "777-9311" (1982) and "Jungle Love" (1984), and the band appeared in Prince's 1984 film "Purple Rain".
