Mavis Staples is a Chicago born gospel, soul and R&B singer and civil rights activist. She rose to fame with her family band the Staple Singers, whose hits included "I'll Take You There" and "Let's Do It Again". Her smoky, powerful voice made the group a voice of the civil rights movement, and she has maintained a solo career since her 1969 debut album. Her live performances pair spiritual depth with funk and soul grooves, including collaborations with New Orleans musicians such as Trombone Shorty.
