GWAR is a heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1984, known for grotesque costumes portraying interplanetary warriors. Their thrash metal and shock rock is framed by an ongoing science fiction storyline across albums and shows. Records include "Scumdogs of the Universe" (1990) and "The New Dark Ages" (2022), and they earned two Grammy nominations. Their concerts stage mock violence that sprays the audience with fake blood.
