Anthrax is an American thrash metal band formed in Queens, New York City, in 1981 by guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. Alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer, they are counted among the Big Four of 1980s thrash. "Among the Living" (1987) is regarded as one of the genre's greatest albums, and the 1991 "Bring the Noise" collaboration with Public Enemy became a hit that led to a joint tour.
