Status/Non-Status (London, ON)With a name that demands attention, Status/Non-Status is a band that boldly explores Indigenous identity, politics, and ancestry. Their music blends folk rock, psychedelia, post-rock, and grunge into powerful soundscapes that resonate with emotional depth and cultural significance. Adam Sturgeon—lead singer and Anishinaabe community worker—is the driving force behind Status/Non-Status. Defined as “non-status” by the Canadian government, Sturgeon’s identity is rooted in the complex history of his family. His grandfather enfranchised to join the Armed Forces and become a Canadian citizen, creating a legacy that Sturgeon confronts in his music and work. His artistic journey is deeply intertwined with raising awareness about the impact of colonization while striving to reconnect with his Anishinaabe/Potawatomi roots and community. Committed to analyzing and questioning colonial systems of oppression, his work reflects the struggles of his people and offers a path toward healing. https://www.statusnonstatus.comhttps://statusnonstatus.bandcamp.comhttps://www.instagram.com/statusnonstatus By Divine Right (Toronto, ON)By Divine Right features the psych-infused art-pop songwriting of chilean born singer / guitarist José Contreras. In the early days By Divine Right’s ever evolving line-up, counting amongst some of its members Feist, Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) and Brian Bordchert (Holy Fuck), made it one of Canada’s first indie rock collectives. To date Divine Right has been recognized with Polaris Prize and Juno nominations, but most notably the adoration of admiring music fans and the CanRock music elite alike. - www.fortunestellarrecords.com https://bydivineright.cahttps://bydivineright.bandcamp.com/https://www.instagram.com/bydivineright Self Cut BangsTwo weddings and a baby. Just a few of the major life events to account for the gap between Self-Cut Bangs’ sophomore album and their latest, Growth Spurts, a true family affair. Now featuring two married couples, they self-describe as “like Fleetwood Mac, but replacing the drama and drugs with more guitar solos.” A retro future rock & roll statement powered by a cotton candy jet engine. https://selfcutbangs.bandcamp.comhttps://www.instagram.com/self_cut_bangs sadbirthdaysThriftscore Dream Pophttps://thesadbirthdays.bandcamp.comhttps://www.instagram.com/sadbirthdays In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, the Iyarhe Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations), the Battle River Territory of the Métis Nation of Alberta Districts 5 & 6, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
