RAGGA NYC

Echoing through your mind, bursting through the soil in this fever pitch to make what we call Ragga Nyc

A special curation of sisters who have shaped my relationship to nightlife from pre Ragga Nyc to now. Artists who have taught me so much and inspire me to this day. Artists in the scene shaking the table and leading this scene into the future. They continue to fine tune the Ragga Nyc sound.

And what is the sound of RAGGA NYC? It can be defined as the pairing of music from the greater Caribbean with electronic music originating in Detroit, being remixed across the African diaspora, and returning to the queer night clubs of New York City. At the nexus of these genres and various sub-genres is a shared lineage/universal narrative that, by allowing the marriage of, RAGGA NYC expands the notion of what scenes can be in community with one another. RAGGA NYC is the setting where queer folks can openly enjoy dancehall and reggae, where Black people can rejoice and re-stake claim to electronic music, and where the embrace of countercultures further inspires innovative sounds that reflect the multitude of identities in which they stem from. At no point does the sound reflect a basic exchange or one-to-one trade off of dancehall to techno, soca to club, kompa to house, etc. When properly conducted/curated, the sound of RAGGA NYC echoes an arrangement of acknowledgements of the identities and their associated music that encompasses the community that RAGGA NYC strives to serve.

We will be uplifting these 3 organizations doing amazing work for queer Caribbean folk during the event and a portion of the door will go to them: Red Afro Cubana Trans (supports resources to the trans community in Cuba), Liga De Salud Trans (earthquake relief for people in the Pacific region of Colombia) and Colectiva Feminista en Construcción (A political project rooted in the Black and decolonial feminist tradition combating Puerto Rico's water crisis)
