Jay’s full band will be joined by The Hot and Dirty Brass Band Trio for the first time ever, playing songs from his entire catalog. It’s not really an album release party … it’s just a party. Opening the show will be soulful local favorite Derek Pritzl. Jay Matthes is an award-winning Americana singer/songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His original music has been described as "full of personality and boldness" (Breaking & Entering), "proudly no frills" (Shepherd Express) and "well-crafted heartfelt tunes" (The Daily Country). It's been featured on local, regional and national radio and television, including daily rotation for "The Light" music video on The Country Network. Jay has played hundreds of shows since his start in 2010, sharing the stage with national acts Old Dominion, Judah & the Lion, Jordan Davis and many more. He's earned "must-see" reviews along the way, including Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's "Daily Concert Pick at Wisconsin State Fair" in 2017, and both Milwaukee Record's "Record Recommended" and 88Nine Radio Milwaukee's "Milwaukee Music Pick" at Summerfest 2019. Jay has been named "One to Watch" by Nashville Songwriters Association International. and won Best Male Vocalist in Shepherd Express' Best of Milwaukee in 2018. His album Dancing After Dark was a Finalist for 'Independent Release of the Year' at the 2017 88Nine Radio Milwaukee Music Awards. The lead single "Good Lookin' Woman" was a Finalist for 'Song of the Year' and was a Semi-Finalist in the 2020 International Songwriting Competition. He brings a style and narrative that is reminiscent of some of the great songwriters of yesterday and today, continuing a tradition of songwriting developed by artists such as John Prine, Guy Clark, John Fogerty, and Bill Walkner. His songs evoke visions of the struggles of the working man, the road-weary traveler, and of love found and love lost.
