CORKY SIEGEL "Charms the ears off anyone who sees him” - CHICAGO SUN TIMES “A piano and harmonica virtuoso of remarkable invention and wit.” - BILLBOARD MAGAZINE "Incomparable legacy” - MAKING A SCENE Pull up a chair. Corky Siegel is a writer and performer of his original humorous and insightful songs as well as the trailblazing pioneer of Siegel-Schwall , Chamber Blues and Symphonic Blues. WEBSITE: CorkyMusic The story: The guy next store Corky Siegel is just your friendly life-of-the-party singer-songwriter guy next door, that happens to have played places like Lincoln Center. "They Love Corky Siegel in Lincoln Center." New York Times. He happens to have been honored and embraced by the blues masters like Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon , who sat in with him and took him under their wings every week on 43rd street in a regular Thursday night gig, across the tracks on the South side of Chicago. On the other hand, also in the 60s, he was chosen by the Chicago Symphony (and orchestras around the world - more than 50 and counting) to be the one to bring blues and classical together helping to heal deep divisions. At this point you wouldn't be surprised that he has many diverse recordings on major labels like RCA, Vanguard, Alligator, Deutsche Grammophon , and even has a platinum seller. His solo recordings and performances have also been praised by the Folk community. "Mesmerizing, surprising, and all together pleasing" - SING OUT MAGAZINE. He has won major composition competitions for chamber music, received raves about his symphonic compositions, produced Joni Mitchell's last demo including her hit Circle Game leading to her first record deal, recorded five piano and harmonica tracks on John Prine's Bruised Orange album and all but one cut on Steve Goodman's last album. He is most proud of playing frisbee with his friend Pete Seeger on the lawn of the Newport Folk Festival where Corky performed in 1967. He was one of the ultra-early collaborators with playwrights Rado and Ragni for the musical HAIR , and toured with Carlin and Hope , (George and Bob). He was in the middle of the musical hurricane known as San Francisco's Summer of Love with Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Santana , and was managed at the time by its impresario. This year he is featured on an album called Global Fusion by Dr. L Subramaniam (God of Indian Violin) with Jazz greats like Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Billy Cobham, Ernie Watts, Hubert Laws, Stephane Grappelli, and Jean-Luc Ponty. Highlighting the importance of this legacy Steven Wine writes in the ASSOCIATED PRESS ; “For more than half a century, Corky Siegel has brought new colors to the blues to bridge musical genres and cultural divides, making the world slightly smaller and kinder“ His latest album, Symphonic Blues No, 6, received accolades from the major music journalists; "A masterpiece of stunning proportions."
