Tray Wellington is a North Carolina banjo innovator praised for a forward-looking take on bluegrass. He bridges folk, bluegrass, jazz, and contemporary roots rather than chasing vintage emulation. Honors include the 2024 Steve Martin Banjo Prize, 2019 IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year, and two IBMA New Artist of the Year nominations. Live sets showcase fearless improvisation and a wholly personal voice on the banjo.
