The Washington Chorus

The Washington Chorus is a symphonic chorus founded in Washington, D.C., in 1961 by the physician Hugh Hayward. It was the first major Washington-area chorus founded independently of a church or college, and sings with a roster of around 180 voices. It has won two Grammy Awards, and in 2020 Eugene Rogers became its music director, the first Black artistic director of a major symphonic chorus in the United States.
