The Manhattans are an American R&B vocal group from Jersey City, New Jersey, formed in 1962. Their sound evolved from doo-wop roots into smooth Philadelphia soul ballads led by vocalist Gerald Alston. They topped the pop and R&B charts in 1976 with "Kiss and Say Goodbye" and won a Grammy for "Shining Star" (1980). Live shows feature Alston and the group's catalog of romantic soul classics.
