The Format is an American indie rock band from Peoria, Arizona, formed in 2002 by childhood friends Nate Ruess and Sam Means. Their sound mixes indie, alternative, punk and folk with elements of 1960s and 1970s pop. After "Interventions + Lullabies" (2003) and "Dog Problems" (2006), the band went on hiatus in 2008, while Ruess went on to front fun.
