Modest Mouse is an American indie rock band formed in Issaquah, Washington, in 1993 by singer-guitarist Isaac Brock. Their music mixes punk-inspired rawness with atmospheric guitar and lyrics about small-town life. The single "Float On" broke them into the mainstream, and "We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank" (2007) topped the Billboard 200 a decade after "The Lonesome Crowded West" (1997).
