Michael Manring

Michael Manring is an American bassist from the San Francisco Bay Area, known for expanding what the electric bass can do as a solo instrument. His playing spans jazz fusion and experimental styles on fretless bass with alternate tunings. Solo albums include "Unusual Weather" (1986) and "Thonk" (1994); Bass Player readers voted him Bassist of the Year in 1994. His live sets prize deep listening and improvisational chemistry with fellow players.
