Melvin Seals
rockpop
Melvin Seals is a Hammond B-3 organist, producer and bandleader from San Francisco. His playing draws on gospel, blues, funk and R&B, and helped define the sound of jam band music. He was a core member of the Jerry Garcia Band from 1981 until Garcia's death in 1995, then formed Melvin Seals & JGB to carry the repertoire forward. Rather than a tribute act, the band reshapes that material through extended improvisation.
