Mel Brown in Portland

Mel Brown is a jazz drummer from Portland, Oregon, who leads the Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group. Brown was a Motown studio and touring drummer from 1967, recording with Martha and the Vandellas, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. The group, whose four members are all Oregon Music Hall of Fame inductees, held a 20-year Thursday residency at Portland's Jimmy Mak's. Their sets feature blistering solos and improvised arrangements.
