Kenny Garrett is an American alto saxophonist and composer, born in Detroit in 1960. His music joins modern jazz with the R&B and gospel he grew up around, plus rhythms from Cuba, Nigeria and Guadeloupe. He came up in the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, played in Miles Davis's band from 1988 to 1991, and won a Grammy Award for "Five Peace Band Live".
