John Ballantyne is a Scotland-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist based in Chicago. His earthy vocals and lead guitar draw on classic honky-tonk country, shaped by Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark, and John Prine. He fronts Crazy Heart and co-created Chicago 1971, a musical show about the night Steve Goodman introduced Prine to Kristofferson. Performances blend storytelling with songs by Prine, Goodman, and Kristofferson.
