George Coleman

jazz

George Coleman is an American jazz tenor saxophonist born in Memphis, known for blues-rooted, muscular improvisation. His sound combines hard-bop drive with the lyricism he developed playing with B.B. King and Max Roach. He joined Miles Davis's quintet in 1963 and appears on albums including "Seven Steps to Heaven" and "Four & More," and was named an NEA Jazz Master in 2015. Live sets with his quintet revisit Davis-era repertoire in an intimate club setting.
