Gene are a Britpop and alternative rock band formed in London in 1993, fronted by singer Martin Rossiter. Critics have often compared them to The Smiths, both in Rossiter's delivery and in his lyrics. The debut album "Olympian" (1995) and "Drawn to the Deep End" (1997) both reached number 8 in the UK, and the band split in 2004 before reuniting in 2025.
