Frankie Avalon is an American singer and actor born in Philadelphia in 1940, and one of the defining teen idols of the late 1950s. His smooth pop vocals powered romantic easy-listening hits. "Venus" (1959) and "Why" (1960) both reached No. 1; he starred in the Beach Party films with Annette Funicello and sang as Teen Angel in "Grease" (1978). His shows pair those classics with warm nostalgia and effortless stage presence.
