Derek Douget

Derek Douget is a Louisiana saxophonist raised in Gonzales whose music draws on the state's multicultural jazz traditions. He studied at the University of New Orleans under Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste, then toured with Nicholas Payton and joined the Ellis Marsalis Quartet. His 2002 debut album Perpetual Motion featured Payton and Marsalis, and he appeared on the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra's Grammy-winning Book One. Live sets combine deep grooves with adventurous improvisation rooted in modern New Orleans saxophone.
