Cirith Ungol is an American heavy metal band from Ventura, California, named after a mountain pass in Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings". Their doom-laden metal carries sword-and-sorcery lyrics, and every album cover uses Michael Whelan's Elric artwork. After "Frost and Fire" (1981) and "King of the Dead" (1984) they split in 1992, reunited in 2015 and released "Forever Black" (2020).
