Bettye LaVette
r&b
Bettye LaVette is an American soul singer born Betty Jo Haskins in Muskegon, Michigan, recording since her first Atlantic Records single in 1962. She reshapes familiar songs with raw honesty, wry humor, and a voice rooted in the earliest era of soul. Her 2005 album "I've Got My Own Hell to Raise" earned widespread critical acclaim. Intimate sets strip each song to its emotional core, making every tune her own.
