The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra founded in 1945 and based at Atlanta Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center. Its programmes pair the standard symphonic canon with large choral works, a legacy of the chorus Robert Shaw founded in 1970. Recordings for Telarc brought the orchestra 26 Grammy Awards, and in 1978 it made the first commercial digital recording by an American orchestra.
