Antibalas

Antibalas is a Brooklyn-based American afrobeat band founded in 1998 by baritone saxophonist Martín Perna. Their music follows afrobeat's architecture while drawing on jazz, funk, dub, and West African and Cuban drumming. Fu Chronicles (2020) earned a Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album; Hourglass (2025) came from live sessions with their eleven-piece ensemble at Studio G in Brooklyn. Concerts feature a large horn section and extended, dancefloor-oriented Afrobeat arrangements.
