Ali in Washington

Ali is a Jakarta trio of Arswandaru, John Paul Patton, and Absar Lebeh, blending Middle Eastern music with 1970s Indonesian psychedelic funk and disco. Their sound folds cinematic soul and afrobeat into Arabic lyrics drawn from Middle Eastern art's deep ties to Indonesian culture. The band released its debut album "Malaka" in 2023 after forming in 2021. Live shows promise a diverse groove the trio calls Middle Eastern beats with Southeast Asian twists.
