10,000 Maniacs are an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Jamestown, New York. Their sound blends jangle pop and folk rock, with violin and viola in the arrangements. "In My Tribe" (1987) and "Our Time in Eden" (1992) brought the band its hits, and the "MTV Unplugged" album (1993) went triple platinum. Natalie Merchant fronted the group until 1993, when Mary Ramsey took over.
