PSYCHO BEACH PARTY

A wave rolls over your toes, and upon its retreat it reveals a bottle wedged in the sand. You snatch it out of its hiding spot and shatter it on the nearby full human skeleton. There’s a scroll waiting for you inside. You frantically unravel it.

It reads:
“Come to the Psycho Beach Party at Bossa Nova Civic Club.”

You flip it over.

“Monday October 26th. 10 pm to 4 am. Free. Spooky music. Dark wave, house, acid, jungle, DnB, more house. All spooky. All night.”

You unravel it more.

“Costumes highly encouraged. Masks highly encouraged. Protect your community. Spooky beach themed costumes extremely encouraged. Beach themed costumes somewhat encouraged. Spooky random costumes barely encouraged.”

Now you’re intrigued. You set the scroll aside and look up at the full moon. Suddenly, a moon laser shoots you and possesses you with the ghost of halloweens past. Within moments you find yourself monologue-ing:

“Bird daddy is a Brooklyn based vinyl only DJ who loves crunchy kicks, acid lines, and swingy beats that keep the dance floor moving all night. His collection covers 90s-00s house/deep tech, acid house, UK sound, minimal/micro, techno, and underground vintage queer wax.

Chemareéa’s relationship with DJing is more about sharing her collection of wax that belongs at raves she wasn’t alive to attend than identification with the “DJ” title itself. Working almost exclusively with vinyl, their club selections move through jungle, drum & bass, gabber, and classic ghettotech. Chilling new wave and straight four-on-the-floor might be thrown in next to breakbeats. Newer records occasionally find their way into the mix through independent label discoveries and trust in the international postal service. She plays music that holds up; music with rhythm, character, atmosphere, and a sense of history. Expect a set that moves between familiar classics and less familiar cuts, with an emphasis on letting the records speak for themselves.

kieeef plz’s take on vinyl is rooted in the study of the histories of turntablism and house music. A lifelong nerd and dance music enthusiast, his ultimate conclusion was to honor and preserve the practice of mixing records, and what other way is there to do that then by mixing records? Expect 90s-2000s deep house, breaks, and acid.
