La Rumba Buena

If you know Rumba, you know we strive to make each party unique. To make every month is its own event. On Saturday, October 17th, we’re bringing you switch ups both musically and aesthetically!

Our very, very special guest this month (making her Canadian debut!) is Mar (@emedemarea), founder and force behind the world-renowned @nochenegra.mx party. A Venezuelan-Brazilian migrant, Mar has lived in Mexico City since 2015. Motivated by her nostalgia for the rhythms of South America, Brazil, and the Caribbean, she founded Nochenegra In 2017.

Mar has evolved from being behind the scenes to being a sought after selector in her own right, always focusing on music from Latin America, Brazil, and the Caribbean. She’s played alongside DJs and artists such as Edna Martínez, Coco María, Quantic, León Michels (El Michels Affair), Sonido Gallo Negro, Son Rompe Pera, and Natalia Lafourcade, among others. (Side note #2: we played together in Mexico City this February and she *killed* it). We can’t wait for her to touch down in Toronto.

But wait! We ain’t done! We will ALSO be debuting new Rumba merch (T-shirts! Hats! Tote bags!), designed by the incredible @cznco. Cznco, based in Toronto, by way of Venezuela, is an interdisciplinary artist and creative director who uses her art and research to translate the parallels between man and nature, interpreting subject matter to distinguish between the organic and technological self. For our October Rumba, she’s turning the front of our beloved @cafeteria___ into an experiential installation (more details to come). Happening for one night only. A brief, beautiful bloom.

Tickets on sale now. Merch is limited and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so you may want to arrive earlier than usual. Come celebrate with us on this extra special occasion.
