Cormier has spent more than four decades building a career that almost defies description. A professional musician from the age of 13, Cormier has moved effortlessly through bluegrass, country, Celtic and roots music, performing everywhere from Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry to stages across his beloved East Coast. A master guitarist, fiddler, mandolin and banjo player, singer, songwriter, producer and storyteller, Cormier has released more than 15 albums and earned a remarkable collection of JUNO, East Coast Music, Canadian Folk Music and Music Nova Scotia nominations and awards. His landmark album Another Morning helped shape generation of East Coast songwriters and musicians, while his live performances have earned admiration from legends including Chet Atkins, Marty Stuart, Waylon Jennings and Gordon Lightfoot. And then there’s Tim Edey. Described by Natalie MacMaster as “my favorite guitarist in the whole world,” Edey is a double BBC Musician of the Year and one of the most celebrated guitar and melodeon players in contemporary Celtic music. Originally from Broadstairs, Kent, and now based in Scotland, Edey has toured and recorded with a staggering list of artists including The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Natalie MacMaster, Donnell Leahy, Altan, Capercaillie, Mary Black, Julie Fowlis, Lunasa, The Barra MacNeils – and J.P. Cormier himself. His playing combines breathtaking technical ability with the warmth, sensitivity and sheer joy that sit at the heart of traditional music. Sharon Shannon describes his performances as possessing “a ferocious passion and a beautiful tenderness,” and audiences around the world have discovered the same thing: virtuosity is only part of what makes Tim Edey special. On Thursday, March 11, Hugh’s Room brings J.P.
