There’s an endearing uncanniness to Golomb’s 2025 record “The Beat Goes On,” starting with its proto-Summer of Love title, referencing a different married couple trading lines over and about driving drums, the opening title track a meta-meditation on turning on, tuning in, and dropping yourself into sonic slipstream.

The production is intimate, raw, often hushed and deft but free-wheeling, pummeling, brushing up against but never gratingly in the red. The record sounds timeless and contemporary, AM and FM, a loose grip on the guitar neck and a drumstick on a downward trajectory at maximum velocity.

These feel like songs that you’ve heard before, like scanning the radio on a cross-country drive. Not as in a mixtape — there’s a real intentional cohesion across their catalogue — but a freedom to stretch out and explore. The three players — equilateral, minds-melded, ego placed lovingly aside — skip and hop through the history of electric guitar music and its tropes and quilt together something strikingly of a piece.
