PIANO NEXT explores the space between what a piano can do and what pianist Eve Egoyan has always wished it could do. In collaboration with media artist David Rokeby, live acoustic performance merges with touch-triggered visuals. In Eve's own, newly-composed works, a modelled piano blends with personal recordings to extend the piano's sonic range — pushing the piano beyond the familiar into the extraordinary. We’ve invited Calgary’s own experimental supergroup Secret Lady Project to open the evening with their fiercely refreshing take on collective creation and improvisation. Eve Egoyan is a celebrated Armenian-Canadian pianist who has performed as a soloist at major festivals across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, including Other Minds (USA), Huddersfield (UK), Sydney Festival (Australia), Klangspuren (Austria), Kobe International Festival (Japan), and Luminato, Victoriaville, and PuSh Festivals in Canada. Her solo recitals have taken her to major Canadian venues such as Koerner Hall, George Weston Hall, The Isabel, Salle Bourgie, and Domaine Forget, and she has appeared as soloist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver CBC Orchestra, among others. She has collaborated extensively with artists across theatre, dance, film, and new media, and has released thirteen acclaimed solo discs, many featuring works written expressly for her. As a composer, Eve writes for augmented and acoustic piano, exploring the space between what a piano can do and what she has always wished it could do. At the core of her work is the live acoustic sound of the piano — but through the delicate intervention of technology, she pushes it beyond the familiar, through the impossible and into the extraordinary. Widely broadcast on CBC Radio, Eve was named one of Canada's 25 top pianists of all time by the CBC and inducted into the CBC Hall of Fame. Her major awards include the Muriel Sherrin Award for Music Performance and Canada Council New Chapters funding for Solo for Duet. During 2025–26, Eve was Artist in Residence at the Jackman Humanities Institute, where she composed In Stone, a work reflecting on the Armenian Genocide and the struggle to hold truth amid denial. She was also Researcher in Residence for ArtScience with Ocean Networks Canada, exploring the passage of neutrinos through deep ocean waters. This concert is part of a cross-Canada tour funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. Secret Lady Project How well do you know the old, white man inside your head? No, he’s not your father, though he may have spoken with his voice. He speaks with yours to your siblings, your children, your friends. You know his name, this greatest of charlatans. The protector of nothing and no one. The great master of fear. Do you know when he is speaking to you? Have you ever had a moment without that voice? One minute to yourself, stomach freely distended, dancing in the center of your own ridiculous existence? How long did that moment last before he spoke to you from the mouth of a friend? Looked at you through the eyes of a stranger? Do you know what it’s like to silence him completely, for that moment to stretch? What would it be like to immerse yourself in music alien to him? To share that music with strangers and friends? These are the questions that Secret Lady Project will ask you with their art, for these are the questions they ask themselves. In both sound and silence they offer these questions as an invitation. They will never guarantee what you will hear when you step into their world of sound, but they promise to be louder than ‘he’ is. If you join them, they won’t tell him, they will keep it secret. Secret Lady Project (SLiP) is a bold and innovative music collective creating on Mohkinstsis land, bringing together four talented artists: Holly DeCaigny (saxophones), Nia Devetzis (percussion), Laura Jones (voice/guitar/dramaturgy), and Kelsey Noble (flutes). Since 2021, SLiP has been crafting unique soundscapes and immersive musical experiences that blend experimentation with the freedom of improvisation. Their fresh and evocative style has earned them spots at the Northern Lights Festival (2022), CJSW's "That's Classical" (2022), Tadpole's "On the Brightside" Festival (2023), and live performances with Bug Incision in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
