Hosted by Michael Occhipinti and Amanda Walther, the evening brings together a diverse group of artists, each with something compelling to say and a story to tell. Nardos Almaz: With an adoration for songwriting, Nardos Almaz began her musical journey from her childhood bedroom in Kitchener-Waterloo. She uses clever guitar melodies and honest lyrics to navigate her intersectional identity. Now based in Toronto, Almaz released her debut EP Close Contact in October 2025, following her through the sobering reality of young adulthood as a queer, Black woman. Fresh off an electric double single release in the spring, her dynamic performances and poignant songwriting have been steadily carving out a space for her in the Canadian indie music scene. Jasmine AlexJ is a Canadian singer-songwriter and producer drawing inspiration from folk, pop, and musical theatre, with storytelling at the heart of her music. A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Professional Music program, Jasmine creates intimate, heartfelt music rooted in personal experience. She has performed at notable Toronto venues including TD Music Hall, The Drake Underground, Cameron House, and The Burdock, establishing herself as an emerging voice in Toronto’s singer-songwriter community. Jennarie: Montréal-born, Toronto-based Jennarie is a rising independent artist blending jazz, pop, and R&B with powerhouse vocals and deeply personal songwriting. Her breakout anthem Never Been Small turned online body-shaming into a viral statement of self-love, earning more than 60 million views, 3 million streams, and support from SZA and Meghan Trainor, before landing in Rosebud Baker’s Netflix special The Motherlode. With performances at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival and Fierté Montréal and recognition from Canada’s Walk of Fame and JAZZ.FM91, Jennarie is now transforming viral momentum into a lasting career, with a new body of work arriving this fall.
