PRESENTED BY 8-BALL RADIO AND THE 8-BALL COMMUNITY
8-Ball Community is a volunteer-run, non-hierarchical, and horizontally-organized arts collective. For nearly 15 years, we have worked to provide a space for the proliferation of DIY media of all modalities. We have no bosses, no corporate sponsors, and we welcome the public to partake in the operation of and preservation of our collective project. From our public, physical space in NYC’s Chinatown, we bring together punks, oddballs, artists, activists, and neighborhood geniuses to operate a radio station, a TV station, and a zine archive. We aim to use our resources to amplify stories, art, and information by and for communities that have been historically excluded from arts and media spaces. Together, we have produced hundreds of zines, broadcast radical television and transmitted uniquely expressive radio broadcasts, often with unconventional, anti-establishment methods. Throughout the year, we also organize zine fairs, workshops, film screenings, parties, and educational events to bring DIY art, media, and ephemera to the public, wherever they can meet us. We are currently raising funds to preserve and expand the 8-Ball community space, so that we can continue to provide community programming, broadcasts, and education for many years to come!
