Rey Ruiz is a Cuban salsa singer (Reinerio Ruiz, born June 21, 1966, La Lisa, Havana) who defected while touring and built a U.S. solo career. Romantic salsa hits carried him across Latin America and Hispanic U.S. markets. His platinum debut "Rey Ruiz" won Premios Lo Nuestro Tropical New Artist of the Year in 1993; "En Cuerpo y Alma" came in 1995. He played Madison Square Garden during that rise.
