Andy Wheelock

Andy Wheelock is an American jazz drummer, percussionist and composer who leads the WHEE3TRIO with pianist Walter Gorra and bassist Gonzalo Teppa. His writing blends jazz with Afro-Latin and West African music, using the pentatonic tuning and timbre of the Ghanaian gyil, a wooden xylophone, as a composing tool. The trio's repertoire ranges from sweeping, melodic landscapes to intricate dance rhythms and Afro-pop-tinged street party tunes.
