Alison Brown is a Grammy Award-winning American banjoist whose playing blends bluegrass with jazz, pop, folk, and Latin influences into mellow, inventive solo and quartet work. She formed the Alison Brown Quartet and co-founded Nashville's Compass Records with bassist Garry West. Her 2001 Grammy for "Leaving Cottondale" from "Fair Weather," with Béla Fleck, anchors a career devoted to the banjo's melodic possibilities.
